The Dog Blog — Zoe’s Favorite Back-to-School Trends

Hello human followers.  It’s that time again — time for puppies and human children to return to obedience school.  Even though I don’t go to school anymore myself, I still love back-to-school time.  I can hardly wait to sit at my front window and watch the kids getting on and off the bus.  It is a great way to keep track of the latest fashion trends.  Now I know what you may be thinking.  Why are you talking about fashion trends on a school uniform blog site?  Simple.  Just because you wear a uniform doesn’t mean you cannot personalize your look and take advantage of some of the season’s coolest trends.  The following are five of my favorites.

1. Bright Colored Accessories.  I can’t help but drool a little over this trend (that’s doggie speak for “I really, really, love it”).  You all know how much I love accessories.  Well, I love bright colored accessories even more (did you novice my bedazzled bright pink leash).  And what a great way to personalize your school uniform.  Of course, the obvious choice might be a bright purse, hair bow or piece of jewelry, but why stop there?  Why not choose bright colored school gear such as pencils, notebooks and lunch boxes.  If hot pink pencils don’t make you want to do your math homework, I don’t know what will.

2. Layered Accessories and Chunky Jewelry. I am going to stay on the topic of accessories for just a little longer.  Another great trend this season is layering jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets to make a bigger impact.  If you don’t want to wear lots of jewelry, then select pieces that are large and chunky.  You will get the same effect.  Like my friend Bull, the mastiff always says, “Go big or go home!”  I wonder if I can layer my doggie collars somehow…

3. Short Hairstyles. As most of you know, I am a long-haired Chihuahua.  I of all dogs appreciate how beautiful long hair can be.  That being said, I still love the fact that short hairstyles seem to be making a comeback.  If you are looking to make a big statement for the new school year, you need look no further than the hairs on your head.  A classic bob never goes out of style or, if you are really daring, why not try a pixie cut.  Either way, a great haircut will turn heads.

4. Cardigans and Layering. This trend is perfect for you Parker families.  It may be hard to believe right now in the middle of August, but there will come a time when you want to throw on another layer or two.  If you do, reach for a great cardigan.  Better yet, reach for a great Parker cardigan.  Parker offers both crew neck and v-neck cardigans in their new unbelievably soft acrylic.  It really does feel like cotton.  And boys, Parker has a great v-neck sweater vest that would be perfect over one of Parker’s oxfords.  Now that’s layering done right.

5. Knee High Socks. Everything old is new again.  There are many retro trends this year and this is one of my favorites. If your school dress code allows it, you could always be extra trendy by choosing knee high socks in bright colors.  (I realize these examples are not school uniform approved but I couldn’t help but love the paw prints on them.)  If not, Parker offers a great selection of knee high socks in lots of school uniform colors.  And, they have just introduced their new Parker socks that are super comfy and come with a great Comfort Toe technology.  It makes me wish I could wear socks.

Before I go, I feel as though I should touch on one other trend for the fall that is my absolute favorite – faux fur.  I am seeing faux fur on vests, jackets, collars, you name it.  Now as far as I know, faux fur is not included in anyone’s school uniform program.  And I get that.  I know it would be an unusual choice.  But, my beautiful fur coat has served me well my entire 3 years.  Maybe Parker might consider introducing a faux fur vest for next season.  I will talk to my owner and see if I can’t pull some strings.  Until next time.  Zoe, the dog.

The Dog Blog – Lunch Box Style

Hello human followers.  I hope you all are enjoying your fun family vacations this summer.  I wish I were but, unfortunately, I am not.  When your owner works for Parker School Uniforms, you do not get to take fun summer vacations.  We might get to take a fun spring or winter vacation, but I learned long ago that summer is all about getting ready for the shoppers.  For Parker dogs like me, July and August are ruff, ruff (and I don’t think I need to translate that one from doggie speak).

Anyway, enough about my troubles.  Let’s talk fashion!  The other day, I decided to lay down underneath one of the park benches at the doggie park to cool off in the shade.  It turned out to be an excellent decision because there was a man sitting on the bench eating his lunch.  I am not usually a fan of Cheetos (a dog does have to watch her figure), but I don’t mind eating a few when they practically land in my lap.  Anyway, I noticed that the hungry man brought his food to the park in a handy food bag that you humans call a lunch box.

I wish dogs could have lunch boxes.  I would love to take my food with me everywhere I go.  (I should mention that I do have a really great doggy dish.  I think it says a lot about my personal style.)  Anyway, when I saw the hungry man’s lunch box, I realized I made a terrible omission in my last blog (http://blog.parkersu.com/2011/07/08/the-dog-blog-dogs-love-accessories-too/). I failed to include lunch boxes in my list of important accessories.  After all, what child does not look forward to picking out his or her lunch box each year during back-to-school time.  I believe that on the list of important things to buy for school, lunch boxes fall somewhere slightly below khakis, polos, and backpacks and a long way above notebooks, pencils and underwear.

With that in mind, I think it is imperative that I remind all my human friends how important it is to pick just the right lunch box.  After all, lunch boxes, like all good accessories, say a lot about their owners.  For instance, a bright and festive lunch box says “I’m fun.  Come sit by me.”  A navy blue, basic lunch box says, “I am too cool to spend too much time thinking about my lunch box.”  Luckily, my owner tells me that Parker has expanded their selection of lunch boxes this year.  From bright and festive, to standard and practical, to plaid lunch boxes that match your school uniform, I am sure that you can find lunch boxes at Parker to please all the humans in your family.  And remember – be sure to choose the right lunch box for you.  You wouldn’t want to send the wrong message. (Alert!  Alert!  Giant lunch boxes say “I am a bottomless pit.”).  Until next time…Zoe, the dog.

The Dog Blog – Dogs Love Accessories Too

Hello humans and happy July.  I hope you all had a great time on Monday setting fire to those loud things you call firecrackers and scaring all the dogs and cats in your neighborhood.  I think I speak for most pets when I say that the 4th of July is just about our least favorite holiday.   It never fails.  Just when I am about to close my eyes for a nice dog nap, someone sets fire to another firecracker and I about jump out of my doggie skin.

As I was shaking with fear cuddling up with my human Monday night and watching the big fireworks show, I did come up with my next blog topic though.  After all, fireworks are bright and sparkly and remind me of jewelry.  And jewelry, of course, reminds me of how much I love accessories!  AAAOOOH! (that’s doggie speak for YEEHAW!).  Humans are so lucky.  You have an unlimited amount of choices when it comes to accessorizing your wardrobes.  You have jewelry, belts, hair accessories, scarves, etc.  The list goes on and on.  I try to be an optimistic dog, but let’s face it, my choices are limited when it comes to doggie accessories.  Of course, my collar says a lot about my fashion viewpoint, but I don’t have many options beyond that.  (I love this cute collar best!)  My leash is fine, but I wear it only once or twice a day and it is really just a little too practical for my taste.  I like some pizzazz.

Parker School Uniforms knows how important it is to accessorize.  Although school uniforms tend to be practical in nature, there are many great ways to personalize them using accessories.  Have you visited the accessory section at Parker? They have all sorts of fun items like hair bows, belts, socks and even shoes.  I also love their selection of backpacks and book bags.  Even though backpacks are practical, they can still say a lot about who you are.  Hey, wait a minute.  That makes me reconsider what I just said about my leash.  I wonder if there isn’t some way that my owner and I can put some pizzazz into my leash.  Some bedazzling might be in order.

Fashion calls so I must run, literally.  I love to run and I will love to run even more with my bejeweled leash.  You guys should run too — down to Parker and pick up some great accessories for back to school.  You know, I hear that big hair bows are still all the rage this season!  Until next time … Zoe the dog.
